The college adheres to the principle of "cultivating talents for the Party and the country", inherits the rigorous and pragmatic educational philosophy, and creates a strong learning atmosphere. The predecessor of the college was the Department of Law established in 1937 by the former Guangxi University School of Law. In 1953, all faculty and students of the Department of Law were merged into the Central South University of Political Science and Law. After the reform and opening up, the Law Department was reinstated in 1983 and enrolled undergraduate law students, becoming one of the earliest departments in China to resume legal education. We began recruiting and training master's students in 1994, and the Law School was officially established in 1997. In 2008, obtained the authority to confer master's degrees in first level disciplines of law and professional master's degrees in law. The undergraduate program in law has been continuously enrolled for 41 years and was selected as a national first-class undergraduate program construction site in 2019. Over the past forty years, the college has trained more than 7800 undergraduate and master's graduates, and a large number of alumni have devoted themselves to the fields of legal practice and legal education, some of whom have become elites in the legal industry.

Build a platform to solidify the foundation of disciplines

The college became one of the first batch of "applied and composite legal talent education and training bases" by the Ministry of Education in 2011. We have three key cultural and social science bases at the autonomous region level, including the Guangxi Civil and Commercial Law Research Center. Cooperate with the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to jointly establish the "Guangxi Legislative Research Evaluation and Consulting Service Base". Cooperate with the Procuratorate of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to jointly establish a key research platform for the "Procuratorate Theory Research Base". Cooperate with the Department of Justice of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to jointly establish the Guangxi Legal Aid Center (Guangxi University) workstation, and host international legal forums and conferences every year. In cooperation with the Guangxi Department of Justice and the Guangxi High Court, a legal aid "convenience service post" was jointly established in Qingxiu District People's Court, Nanning City, to undertake case filing consultation and legal services, which was recognized by the Supreme People's Court. Cooperate with the Supreme People's Procuratorate of Laos to jointly establish the Ministry of Education's foreign aid project "Training Base for Officials of the Lao Prosecution System". There are multiple university level research institutions, including the ASEAN Law Research Center, Achievement Transformation and Intellectual Property Protection Research Center, and Price and Fee Supervision Research Center at Guangxi University.

Dual integration to enhance professional strength

The college strives to improve the construction of the undergraduate legal major system, fully mobilize resources from all parties, and strengthen the conditions for professional education. Inheriting the excellent traditions of the national teaching team, actively cultivating and building innovative teams and course ideological and political demonstration courses, and establishing a simulated court, the Guangxi University Legal Aid Center, founded in 1995, is an important comprehensive practice platform for all students in the college. The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region level Characteristic Professional (Law) Experimental Training Center was completed and put into use in 2021. There are 5 databases and case libraries established in the fields of anti-monopoly law, anti-corruption legislation, ASEAN law, etc. There are 25 off campus internship and practice bases established, and more than 40 legal practice institutions jointly build "legal practice education bases". In 2023, an overseas internship base will be added in Malaysia, forming a three-dimensional, multi-level, and fully covered experimental practice teaching system. In 2021, we won one first prize for teaching achievements at the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region level and were selected for the first batch of "New Humanities" research and reform practice projects by the Ministry of Education. According to the national ranking of law majors released by SoftTech China in June 2024, the law major of Guangxi University is listed in the "B+" level, ranking 93rd in the country, an increase of 29 places compared to the previous year.

Forge ahead with greater resolve to develop strong teaching staff

The college currently has 39 full-time teachers, including 11 professors; More than 70% of teachers have a doctoral degree. Hiring over 50 guest professors and external cooperative mentors. Since 2019, 15 new professors have been introduced and 15 assistant professors have been recruited, enriching the teaching staff with a more reasonable age structure and stronger research capabilities. In recent years, the faculty of the college has undertaken 1 major project of the National Social Science Fund, 6 general projects of the National Social Science Fund, and 30 provincial and ministerial level projects such as the China Law Society, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Justice, and Guangxi Philosophy and Social Sciences, achieving breakthroughs in major projects of the National Social Science Fund. Since 2022, 37 academic papers have been published in core legal journals such as Chinese Social Sciences and Legal Research. Play the role of a national and local legal construction think tank, deeply participate in the research and consulting services of local legislation in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and provide legislative consultation and argumentation with over 100 adopted opinions of more than 200000 words every year. Participated in 10 investigations on the rule of law by the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and produced multiple research and consulting reports that received positive feedback, resulting in fruitful research achievements.

Integrate knowledge and action to showcase the charm of students

The college currently has 650 undergraduate students and 567 master's students. By relying on subject competitions, extracurricular practices, and other modes, we aim to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical training. The pass the rate of students participating in the legal professional qualification examination has been above 40% over the years. Graduates have a wide range of employment opportunities, mainly entering 985 universities for further studies or working in public security, procuratorial, judicial and government departments. The student representative team of the college participated in the 2021 International Criminal Court Chinese Mock Court Competition and won the first prize nationwide. Undergraduate students were selected to participate in the 2023 National Student "Learning Constitution and Speaking Constitution" Competition and won the first prize nationwide. Our college students passed the "National College Student Party History Knowledge Competition" in 2021 and became the only representative from Guangxi to appear on CCTV programs. The volunteer service project of the Legal Aid Center has won three national honors, including the "China Annual Volunteer Excellent Organization Award," "China Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition Gold Award," and "China Youth Volunteer Excellent Project Award," and has become a shining star in the field of legal public welfare in Guangxi.

Curriculum Design: Centered around the requirements of the core legal curriculum system of "1+10+X", the law school offers 21 compulsory courses for majors such as introduction to Xi Jinping thought on the rule of law, jurisprudence, constitutional law, science of economic law, administrative law and administrative litigation law, civil procedural law, criminal procedural law, and science of environment and natural resources protection law. We also offer abundant elective courses in various fields such as ethnic and local legislation, maritime law, and foreign-related civil procedure law.
